Returned to the open mic at the Underground Lounge. Last time I pretty much read my stuff. This time I mostly did it from my head. This led to some crappier segues, but better connection to the audience. Just like last time, I saw some great talent. Also saw this actor guy who went up there for a lark with nothing prepared and just bombed. That was validating. See, this IS hard. Anyway, folks were friendlier this time. Chatted with Geoff Kole, who runs the evening and Rock who guest emceed, and who gave me a few tips. My favorite part of the night is when this professional comedian explained to some non comedians in the audience “Hey this is just the gym for us. And I just dropped a couple of weights on my feet.” This place is a great work out your comedic muscles.

Dear Mr Cox,
Hang on, were you threatening to take me to court because I used the words “Comedy Gym” in a blog post more than a year ago? Whatever. I changed the headline to “comedy gymnasium.” No big deal. I do have to say that I find the trademarking of language to be pretty annoying. Oh well. I guess it’s your livelihood. Good luck with your comedy athletic ventures, whatever you call them.
