Spent the evening at Eyebeam for the kickoff of the Contagious Media Showdown. It’s a contest for people to create the kind of websites people will want to forward to their friends.
I liked these ones, plus a few more which I’ll put up when I have time:
cryingwhileeating.com
delivr.net/
farting saucers
blogstartheater
mo’F'naldos
Anyway, they had a star spangled panel of contagious media mavens, including Nick Denton, founder of Gawker Media, James Hong, co-founder of Hot or Not, Chelsea Peretti, comedian and co-creator of blackpeopleloveus.com, and her brother, moderator Jonah Peretti, who let loose upon the contenders for this three week contest. Also in the house was Ricky from collegehumor.com, one of the guys who runs thefacebook.com, Corey Arcangel, Yuri Gitman, John Geracci, Lia Bulaong, and and various other interactive media machinators. Also talked to some cuties who are starting a wholesale chocolate business. Shoulda got their cards. I liked several of the contagious projects, and I enjoyed seeing the range of attempts.
The thing I was most pysched about was that I talked to Chelsea Peretti told her how to make her blog into a vlog. She seemed genuinely into it, especially when I told her about the Internet Archive being able to host her video for free.
I got some good footage. We’ll see if I ever have time to edit and upload it.
