Showdown low down
Watch video
Length: 3 min 10 seconds, Size: 14 megs, Format: quicktime
Shot this video at the Contagious Media Showdown at Eyebeam last Thursday night. The Showdown is a contest to see who can create the website that gets the most traffic within a three week period. Check in to see how they are doing. Jonah Peretti moderated a panel on the opening night which included James Hong (co-founder of Hot or Not), Chelsea Peretti (humorist, co-creator of blackpeopleloveus.com), Jeff Mack (Alexa Internet), and Nick Denton (founder, Gawker Media). They screened all of the entries to the cheers and jeers of a lively crowd.
While interviewing Ricky Van Veen, (Editor collegehumor.com) on the sidewalk outside Eybeam, I Met some contagious competitors, like Jill Walker and Scott Rettberg who worked on Showdown entry 60 Second Stories. Scott declaimed on his blog "...It’s time for the stainless steel rat of story to crawl its way into the cesspool of contagious content." Yick! Time for my bath.
After the event, some fellow ITPians and I went and sucked the nectar out of soup dumplings while handicapping the competitors. Don't worry guys, I'll bring more cash next time.

Do you actually know John Geraci (the clueless one at the end of the video)? Because I do. Seriously. But since I'm on the other side of the country, please tell him I said howdy.

Yeah, I know John. He was very generous in looking clueless for me in that shot although he was totally on top of the conversation at every moment.
