Mikey Sklar Gets an RFID Tag Implanted in His Hand

Watch the video
My Friend Mikey Sklar recently got a surgeon to implant an RFID chip into his hand. In this interview, Mikey describes the process from research, to purchasing supplies, to the implantation itself. Mikey has been all over the web lately being featured as Maker of the Day for a shirt he made out of dozens of electric fans, and getting Boing Boinged for a talk he will give at Dorkbots about his RFID implant adventure. Mikey is one of my favorite people---a curious, friendly, resourceful guy---just the person to introduce you to the wide world of RFID implantation. This interview is about 11 minutes long and is a must for any people thinking about getting their own RFID implant.

Comment Problems

Hey JG fans. The comment feature of my blog is temporarily messed up. A crack team of scientists is working on this problem, so this will be resolved soon. Maybe.

Yay! No More Strike.

Thank the universal force of nature that permeates this non denominational hoiday season that the strike has straggled to a serendipitous segue to a non striking state.

Rushkoff on Videoblogging

Watch the video
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with bestselling writer Douglas Rushkoff about his latest projects "Get Back in the Box," and "Testament." At the end of our interview, I couldn't help asking him for his take on videoblogging.

Thanks to Matthew Culliford for doing the videography.

I Scooped Brian Lehrer

Brian Lehrer interviewed Douglas Rushkoff today about his new book "Get Back in the Box," a day after I came out with my interview with Rushkoff on the same topic. Always nice to be ahead of the curve, if only barely.

P.S. Brian, I love your work!

Audio Interview: Rushkoff Talks About "Get Back in the Box" and "Testament"

Listen to the Interview

This is an hour long audio podcast of an interview I did with Douglas Rushkoff, September 19, 2005. Rushkoff discussed his latest book, Get Back in the Box, in which he looks at the current renaissance and its implications for the business sector. He also talked about his new biblically inspired dystopian sci-fi comic book series Testament Toward the end he shared a few thoughts about videoblogging. This interview is a must for aspiring reality hackers.

I will post short video excerpts from this interview over the next few days.

Audio recording by Matthew Culliford.

Music in the intro and outro "Harmonic Drone Sample" by Gurdonark.

Mikey Sklar, Maker of the Day

fanshirt.jpg

My amigo Mikey Sklar was featured as Maker of the Day
on the Makezine Blog for a project he made to keep cool in the desert, a shirt made of 38 little electric fans. I recall him telling me that it kept him refreshed, but it also sent unwelcome jolts of electricity coursing through his body at random intervals.

I'm curating a screening of NYC based videoblog videos. It's from 6-7PM, tonight, Dec. 7 at Anthology Film Archives 2nd Avenue and Second Street in the East Village. As I gathered videos, I was blown away by the quality of work coming out of the NYC based vlog community. Come check it out if you have a chance. It's $5.

Punjabi Eats

Watch the video
Punjabi is the name of an Indian food counter on Houston Street between 1st Ave. and Ave. A in NYC. Although it caters mainly to cab drivers, it's also full of bohemian riffraff. I took Ryanne Hodson there because it's cheap and yummy, and near Anthology Film Archives where we checked out a screening of vlog videos. The funny thing is, I see another NYC videoblogger Mica Scalin already posted about this place. And why not? It's like food stamps for artists, $2 for a good meal.
