If you are reading this, chances are you’ve been here before. You may be a videoblogger yourself, or you may be a fan, or a relative…or a stalker. Hey whatever, it’s all good to me (especially now that I’ve moved to a new city and
you stalkerazzi can’t find me!). But if you fall into that subsection of folks that dig what Jonny does and wishes that you too were participating in the web video revolution that’s rocking the known universe, if only you knew how, have I got a treat for you! You can join in the fun. Got a broadband internet connection? Got a computer? Got a camera that can shoot video (yeah, if that point and shoot digital photo camera shoots video that counts)? Take my class! OK, here’s the official schpiel:

I’m delighted to announce that I will be teaching a new course, Web Video 101, online at Phovi.com starting September 26. My goal in Web Video 101 is to help you participate in the revolution in web video production and distribution that is rocking the media world. If you have broadband access to the Internet you can take the course, no matter where you live. The objective for this course is to get you comfortable with producing, distributing, and promoting web video. The course will explore topics such as web video formats, compression, videoblogging, podcasting, audience building, content development, branding, remixing, and video conversations.

You will come out of the course with your own videoblog and video podcast, an episode of your own show, with its own intro and outro, and familiarity with web video production, distribution, and promotion.

You will also become familiar with social networks around web video, where people connect online and in-person. You will learn about how video connnects with blogging, and how people have conversations over time using video.? If this sounds like a lot of ground we’re covering, you’re right, it is! There is so much exciting stuff going on, and we’re going to explore far and wide. At the same time, I will break things down into easy-to-understand chunks, so no one will be overwhelmed.

We will have live weekly class meetings online, where we will discuss the topic of the week and share our work with each other in a supportive, positive atmosphere. On the class website you can refer to text, image, and multimedia class materials to help you complete that week’s project. And of course, I’ll be available to help you in between classes.

This is an exhilerating time. Video cameras, editing tools, web services, and Internet connectivity have developed to the point where almost everyone can become a producer and have their own “channel.” I would be delighted to be your guide to becoming a web video producer. Are you ready? Let’s go!
