I'm going to the Vloggies in SF

I'm going to San Francisco this coming Friday for the vloggies. One of my videos is nominated for a prize (and in true DIY spirit, I nominated it myself). I'll also be representing Reinventing Television, the live, interactive web video talkshow about the ongoing video revolution that I produce and host.

Romantico movie premiere in NYC Nov 1

My sometimes partner in techno art shenanigans, Marc Maleh just turned me on to a Movie his brother in law made called Romantico. It's showing at the IFC in New York. It touches a particular chord with me, because it's about migration from central Mexico to the USA and back, something my mom has is doing in reverse. Joining hordes of US citizens, she retired to Mexico, where the cost of living is low, in fact to the same part of Mexico that the protagonist of Romantico comes from and leaves because he can't make enough money there.

The subject of the documentary is Carmelo, a Mariachi musician who moves to the USA so he can better support his family. He works various labor jobs and by night and is a roving mariachi musician, serenading diners in gentrifying Mission District of San Francisco. Romantico follows Carmelo around the Mission, and back to Mexico when he decides he has to rejoin his family. In Mexico, he finds he gets the family interaction he craves, but can't make enough money to support them. Here's the info. If you are in NYC, come check it out. You can even chat with the director at some of the screenings.

Text chatting with one guy in India and another guy in Boston (and he's probably chatting with someone in Iraq)

So I'm sitting on the floor text chatting with Jay Dedman who is at a mesh network conference in India and Brian Conley who is one of the guys involved in Alive in Baghdad. All this virtual travel is giving me jetlag!

Scruffy Jonny

Thought I'd upload to YouTube for a change of pace. Anyway, by the time you read this, I will have shaved, showered, and brushed my teeth.

Why am I so dishevelled looking? Partly because I'm a slob, but also because I've been buys producing my weekly live interactive web video talkshow Reinventing Television. This week my guest is Eddie Codel of
Geek Entertainment TV.

Jonny Goldstein's Twisted Summer Vacation

Watch the video

This one goes out to all the people I got twisted with this Summer Vacation----my wife, JSW, Bates, my Bro, Cosmic, Conchita, Martin, Liza Beth, Gary, Mimi, John, Moni, Dahveed, and that random kid on the plane. Keep it twisted! Made with my webcam, Macbook Pro, iMovie, Garage Band, and Photo Booth. This was inspired by a piece by Daniel Liss as well as several stop motioneers on the Yahoo Videoblogging Group

Help Steve Garfield, Jason Dasilva, and me explore the state of the video revolution on "Reinventing Television"

You are invited to participate in a live talk show that I am hosting and producing online at Phovi.com. It's called Reinventing Television, and it's about the radically destabilizing impact web video is having on TV as we know it. It’s a strange dance, with video on the web leading, and traditional TV following along, lurchingly, behind the beat. I find it a compelling dance, and think you will too.

This week I will have two amazing guests, Steve Garfield, the "Paul Revere of videoblogging," and Jason Dasilva, the Academy Award nominated independent documentary maker, who will discuss the state of the web video revolution, and it's implications for traditional television.

So how does this work? Thursday, October 5, at 10PM Eastern, you can log in to our live web studio. Steve Garfield, Jason Dasilva, and I will be onscreen via our webcams. For audio, we will all be on a conference call with a number that we will supply. My guests and I will be able to talk, and you'll be able to listen in. You will be an integral part of the show via a live text chat where you can pose questions, get on your soapbox, and make brilliant observations.

Viva La Revolucion!
Be there, or be old media.
