I gave a quick lecture to a class of Masters Degree media students at the University of Miami about videoblogging and how I think it fits into the emerging media ecosystem. The weird thing is that I did it via videoconference using Skype an my webcam. I could see some of the class, in the webcam on that end. Although I got a few chuckles, i don’t know whether I flopped or wowed ‘em. I got a little out there with my advice that they should read a little Kurzweil to stretch their minds out (Kurzweil maintains we’ll have extremely humanlike machines in a few decades). I opined that the media environment is going to keep changing, that videoblogging isn’t an end unto itself, but it’s an entry point into what’s happening, and what’s going happen, so they might as well dive in.
Update: appears they dug it. Kim Grinfeder, the professor, emailed me this:
“IT WAS GREAT! We had a great discussion in class afterwards and the students got into building their blogs. We will share them with you are soon as we have some content. It was funny because after seeing you, 90% of the students decided to re-think their blogging strategy. Thank you so much for participating, I believe the students connected with what you were trying to do and I certainly learned some too.”

Congrats on the lecture via Skype (& Wordpress site). That’s exciting and I look forward to viewing it (…assuming the lecture is linked above?). Kurzweil - wow - his ‘Spiritual Machines’ was something else (I’ve read it bit by bit over the years and still haven’t finished it). Read-digest-read-digest seems to be the pace with that one….
