This has been one of my most action packed weeks ever. I’m just starting to process it all. Let me take you through it.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Worked with a team of DC Media Makers and special guests to write, rehearse, shoot, and edit an entire short film for the 48 Hour Film Project. We drew the Horror genre and had a blast with it. I got to direct and had a brief, chest hair baring, moment. Gerry Tejeda starred as a ill fated vampire. Here’s the final product.
Monday: Taught representatives of community based organizations how to shoot, edit, and upload video at the MultiMedia Training Institute with Phil Shapiro and Jill Foster. Then took a quick detour to Adams Morgan to connect with Josh Wolf, the videoblogger who recently broke the record as the the journalist serving the longest jail time in US history for failing to hand over information to the government. Josh looked and sounded good.
Tuesday: Secured a contract helping a DC based advocacy group do interactive online video training.
Then went to 48 Hour Film Project screening of the movie we made over the weekend at the American Film Institute in Silver Spring. Our star, Gerry T. hung out in front of the theater in full vampire attire.
Wednesday: Worked and went to Star Trek night at a friends. Good times.
Thursday: Went down to Capitol Hill and shot footage of a congressional hearing on the future of video. My first time at a hearing in person. Mark Cuban, Chad Hurley, and lots of other media/tech biz types testified. I shot this video of Ed Markey, the subcommittee chairman whipping out his camcorder to video the audience. Thanks Chris Parandian for alerting me about the hearing! Then Thursday night had a great DC Media Makers meeting with Jim Long, Laura Hepting, Jill Foster, Scott Stead, Phil Shapiro, Chris Parandian, and a couple of newcomers. We showed off projects, talked about hosting the next Vloggercon in DC, and discussed setting up a program where we would teach people at a homeless shelter computer skills (inspired by the Day of Service organized for the recent Nonprofit Technology Conference).
Sunday: Shot a web video commercial for my cousin’s business, Ninnole. Now I’ve got to edit it.
And now it’s Monday. Meeting up with Andy Carvin to scout out a possible Vloggercon location.
Well, that’s it. I guess that was more than a week, but it just seemed wrong to cut off the flow of Jonny goodness.
