My video subject wins Gates award

May 30th, 2007 · No Comments

One of the subjects of a video I am making, Thai Senator, Mechai Viravaidya, just won the Gates Award for Public Health for its “Innovative family planning and HIV prevention programs.” The million dollar Gates award is the biggest cash prize for public health in the world.

I am making a video for Project Hope International, a DC based nonprofit which is partnering with Mechai’s organization, Population and Community Development Association of Thailand, to fund microcredit loans for families on the Thai-Burma border at risk for human trafficking. Mechai will accept the award tomorrow in DC.

Congrats to Senator Mechai Viravaidya for the over thirty years of public health work he has done in Thailand, and for this much deserved recognition from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
