I’m just mulling over our last show featuring Rana Sobhany the marketing manager for washingtonVC.com. A few things leap out at me:
1) Having a good team is key.
Having Scott Stead on board has helped tremendously. He booked Rana, promoted the show, and engineered the show freeing me up to focus on Rana and the Par-tay participants.
2) Brand is not something you create: it’s something you recognize. Then you keep an awareness of that essence in all your communications, and in your product. In my case, Rana said she felt like it was transmitted by the photos at the top of my blog. That clicked for me. Duh! Sometimes it takes someone to point out the obvious.
In my case it’s fun, funny, thoughtful, informal, inquisitive, inclusive, and just a little bit craaaaaazy.
3) My biggest asset is my audience. I’ve got to engage with them as much as I can and help support them by checking out their projects and figuring out what they are about and encouraging them. The more I invest in them, the more it’ll come back to me and vice versa. One of our fans, Jeff Hibbard, a guy I have never even met, made a video today promoting my show while driving his truck! Got to be seen to be believed.

These reflections are fun to read & very useful. I like what your friend said about your photos — and then realizing what those photos evoke regarding your personal brand. It’s really making this Par-tay fan think!

Thanks for the comment Jill. Glad you got something out of this post. Rana definitely schooled me on the branding thing.
