This drawing is a visual manifestation of what happens when you square a number a few times. 5X1=5, 5×5=25, 5X5X5=125, 5X5X5X5=625. If you were to count the number of dots in each successive layer, it would roughly match the above sequence (although there is some imperfection in the above drawing, proving that I am a human, not a calculator).
