Jill Foster’s DNC Reporting Map

Jill Foster’s work/life map:
I had a blast visually facilitating a conversation with Jill Foster yesterday. First we had a conversation about her life/work goals and projects. Then we focused in depth on her objectives for her upcoming reporting gig at the Democratic National Convention.
Basically I asked her to spill what was on her mind and I drew the images above as we talked.
Yes, I love doing visual facilitation: It combines my interviewing, analytical, and drawing skills in a way that helps people get their thoughts out of their heads where they can see patterns, gain insight, and make better decisions.
Jill and I talked about experience right afterward. You can listen to our conversation below. The quote from Jill that stood out the most for me: “”I really gained a lot from externalizing everything, seeing where different projects intersect.”
Andy Carvin, the Senior Product Manager for Online Communities at NPR opined “Love this pic…Anyone planning to do citizen journalism from the DNC or RNC should plan like this.”
On Monday I am doing another visual facilitation session with someone else who is trying to sort out her career path. Very exciting. If you want to find out more about about what visual facilitation is and how it can help you, drop me a line at jonny(dot)goldstein@gmail.com or give me a call at 646-209-7204 and I would be happy to answer any of your questions.

Visualize it!
Actualize it!
Realize it!
A very dynamic drawing. Seems like Jill has got a lot going on.
