View from the nosebleed seats, with notes in the margins

Waiting for rush tickets in the lobby.
The two sketches above are from Ira Glass’s appearance at the Kimmel Center in Philly, January 24, 2009. Ira Glass is the executive producer and host of This American Life. Who needs a camera?
Glass gave an entertaining and moving seminar on storytelling.
Particularly awesome: the start of the show, where he turned off the lights and talked to all 2,000 of us as we sat in the dark. It was like being at camp and people telling stories after lights out—-only with 2,000 people in the cabin. The lights came up soon enough, but I liked this taste of pure audio in the dark.

Oh, that’s great Whitney! Yeah, he’s a pro, no doubt. I could write a lot more. Maybe I will one of these days.

Jonny, will you be my official portrait artist? I’ll need something when I turn 50 next summer.
