When my friend Ariel Churi asked me to substitute for him for the first meeting of the Visual Organization and Visual Design class at Parsons School of Design, I jumped at the chance.
We created a bunch of mind maps to get them started on their first task: to create a project which communicates information about themselves—a kind of information self portrait.
Here are the mind maps I created as examples for them:

An all image mind map. Topic: home.
I shot this video of my face—I didn’t want to capture them or their work without their permission, but you can hear the burble of them chatting about their maps with each other.
As we worked on our mind maps, I played music of two musicians I know–Steve Lawson and John Sully. Both make tunes that aid introspection.
